            Freestyle Pro:

Primero: Juan Canale (Slingshot)

Segundo: Marcos Mafia (Slingshot)

Tercero: Bautista Asseretto Farroni (F-One)

Cuarto: Juan Manuel Adan Tolomei (EH Cabarete)

            Freestyle Intermedia:

                        Primero:  Bautista Asseretto Farroni (F-One)

FLYING.
Setting up the Rippehr reveals a conspicuous lack of artifice and ornamentation or would that be attention to detail? Starting with the bar, the spinn ing chicken loop has a pull pin safety which while easy enough to release is really only easy to reassemble on land. The leash system is neat and clever: it attaches to a metal ring that sits inside the chicken loop, which in tum runs to one of the fronl lines. There is no stopper though so once the safety is pulled or the unhooked bar is dropped, the bar shoots off UDthe lines - it' s all orettv final. And iust when we were oettino used to mini fifth lines. Because of the la'rge sized clip on the leash, it is possible to attach the leash and the chicken loop togeth er for a suicide type set up, this also gives the ability to still pull the safety and put the kite onto the leash. Which ever way, once activated , the kite flags out well and there oug ht to be very little chance of the kite going into a spin because of a rather interesting thing abou t the bridle. There are no pulleys on the front bridle, just four attachment po ints ! The back bridle has two attachment points and a single pulley each side , and together the whole lot is very short, thin, clean and simple. The simp licity continues with no one pump (though there are stopper balls), and util itarian wear patches on the strut ends and where the wing tips sweep in. Absent too, are any of the sort of flashy logos we have become used to that espouse every last marketing gimmick hidden in a kite.

RIDING
Despite, or rather in spite of this, the EH holds a commanding presence in the sky. It has a stark, high aspect super flat, parallel profile that looks very tough. And a surprise at the bar too : the control is direct, light, urgent, and comes with a very short bar throw for a flat kite. Encouraged I hit the water in the gusty south winds and the EH revealed a chillingly impassive nature towards the lumpy winds i.e. gusts, lumps, holes in the wind do nothing to this kite. It just carries on its track through the sky like it is on rails; another pleasant surprise! The depower throw as said is short, and doesn't depower the Rippehr as greatly as the current high depower bridled kites (although they have longer throws), however it is beautifully tuned for waveriding and the fact the power doesn't switch off keeps the pace up when carving hard into bottom turns and smacking sections out of lips. As EH say, this kite is for hardcore riding, so who cares about massive depower? And the power comes on so quickly too, this isn't a kite that you'll be sine waving up and down to keep speed up.
The upwind angle is nothing short of phenomenal but the Rippehr doesn't scream straight to the extremities of the window, instead it sits poised ready to pile even more power on. The wind range of this kite does seem to be massive. The low end efficiency of this flat simple kite is err ... another surprise and on a further session when I was proper lit in 25-30kn ots I still had inches of trimstrap to play with. Ohh, and that trim strap is very smooth to operate and thanks to the short bar throw always in easy easy reach. Another trick that the Rippehr pulls off is an uncanny ab ility to keep high tension in the lines when surting down the line towards it, we passed this kite around to a few people and they all clocked that. Unhooked with the twin tip the Rippehr seriously gets the heart pounding. Ofcourse, riding around between tricks is well civilised, but the simple old school unhooked boost is a shocker: you go up hard, high, and then it seems to yank you up even higher, even quicker. We stuck a few kiteloops and downloops in and by Christ the old ticker shot straight up to 190bpm. It takes a wide track round the sky but does it bloody quickly and, well, violently. Which of course makes looping the Rippehr so addictive.

CONCLUSION
The Rippehr defies any preconceptions that arise from its Spartan (think without garnish and very tough) build quality by basic ally blowing your socks off on the water. The kite is always 'on', the power is always a small movement of the bar away. It' s very stable, it keeps the lines light when you run towards it. It has a massive wind range to cope with the random conditions we get over here. The turning is light and connected. This makes it a cracking kite for smashing as many waves as you can find in a session. Unhooked it whips you about so fast it makek your head spin. EH have dispensed with the cosmetic and focused purely on making a kite that gets the job of wave assass ination and aggressive unhooked riding done. It's not so much a bow that flies like a C; it' s a bow that flies so completely in its own right to a giddying level. Lack of attent ion to detail? No way, this is one hell of an efficient kite - it' s all in the detail!
Very proud to announce that we are now opening a EH test center at probably the nicest beach club, Maraja, in Cabarete.

The Maraja beach club facilities has a 5 star rating and is owned operated by Antonello Canistra, a fellow kite boarder and excellent host.

These brand new  facilities include a large pool, shaded garden, beach lounge, bar, restaurant, combined with an air conditioned VIP area makes the club a nice place to bring the family and keep them happy.

The EH Test Center will be stocked with the latest gear, and will offer full service kite school and 30 unit dry storage for our guest.
